GOLD.
:
n not jus GOLD. but GOLD with HONOURS. yup. tts wat SAJC Dance Society achieved at the SYF Central Judging 2005 for Dance for JCs and Centralised Institutes. uh huh. ok. fine. im sounding so formal wif all tt upper case but who cares. n only 3 schs got Gold with Honours. SAJC, TJC and AJC. our last batch of SYF dancers also got Gold with Honours. so yea. we managed 2 prove tt we're not a one hit wonder. all those months of feeling down...stressed..n tired finally paid off in a big way. n so i salute the nxt SYF batch of SAJC dancers. let this b an encouragement to u tt it can b done. n to all the our detractors out there, we hv no need 2 adjust ourselves to gain ur approval, n neither do we hv 2 bitch back at u. we let our results do the talking. :D
anyways, lemme give those who didnt go for the syf competition (or cldnt go) a brief description n commentary of the other colleges!.
No. 1: NJCNjc took a major risk doing classical ballet. it was basically an insiprational piece (for those who r unfamiliar wif dance jargon, an inspirational piece is usually one tt tells a story). it was a story of a graduation party of sorts. it was really classical to the very ends of the earth, wif guys in big voluminous, puffy white shirts n tights (ouch.), n girls in tutus. they did the piece en pointe (a ballet technique tt calls 4 the gers to go on their toes. literally). n personally, i felt this was wat killed them. the pointe was executed half-heartedly at best n the choreography boring. more often than not, they had ppl jus standing on stage doing nothin, so it was a waste of space n dancers.
NJC was awarded wif silver.
No. 2: VJCNow, VJC's piece was good... entitled The Chase, its an artistic piece about the uglyness n horrors behind climbing the coporate ladder n wat ppl go thru jus to survive in the concrete jungle ie the world todae. the piece was a dark n dramatic one. the choreograpy was mainly about broken lines n layers upon l
No. 3: TJCTJC was different frm the rest. it was really a pretty no-brainer piece. jus lotsa smiling n happiness. tts essentially the heart of TJC's dance piece. the main strength of the piece was not its concept but rather its blockin n techniques. TJC has probably, the best technique amongst all the jcs. its rather fast paced 4 a happy song. overall, theres nothing much to be sad for this piece, except tt it was direct. straightforward n physically demanding, n the TJC dancers pulled it off wif their expressions n superb technique.
TJC was awarded Gold with Honours (in case u dnt noe, Gold with Honours is better than Gold).
No. 4: SAJCah hah... now my sch... lets not b biased ya? ok. unlike all the other schs, whose dances required a build up ie the music starts slow then slowly picks up, our piece started with a bang. the piece is very deep n profound in its philosophy. the piece was entitled Navras, which means the nine states leading to transcendental bliss. the song, on first impression, seems dark n forlorn. but as it progresses, a feeling of gloriousness arises. the song has many layers to it, n so did the dance. there is nv a moment where the energy level is allowed to drop. at every point, there will b movement on stage - organised chaos, so to speak. the ending of the piece was not a gradual decline in energy, but rather, it ends powerfully, leaving the energy to linger n slowly dissipate. the end result is u panting in ur seat. seriously.
SAJC was awarded wif Gold with Honours.
P.S. VJC, TJC and SAJC had the same choreographer.
